Guys, in this article I want to share with you some tips to help you slow down the aging process.

Aging is inevitable, but aging poorly is a choice!

Part of the reason I feel so qualified to discuss this topic is because of the many compliments I receive about my age.

I’ll be turning 32 this summer and I’ve had people guess me to be as young as 22 and 23 over the last few months.

I figure I must be doing something right so I wanted to share with you some of the things I do that I believe have helped me age very well and also so you can perhaps age better yourself.

Regular exercise

I have strength trained at the gym AT LEAST 4 times a week EVERY single week for the last 13 years aside from one week that I took off.

I took one week off back in my early 20’s because I read in some “meathead muscle magazine” that you should take a week off every 6 months.

Aside from that, I have not missed ANY time at all at the gym.

It’s just part of my day and I think of it like brushing my teeth.

I just “get it done.”

Even if I am traveling, I still take my gym gear with me.

Regular strength training is said to have medicine like properties on the body.

Minimal processed foods

For the most part, I stick to a very strict nutrition plan and have for a solid decade now.

I won’t lie, I tend to have a bit of “OCD” with my eating.

I really only eat a select amount of foods which include chicken, eggs, peanut butter, oatmeal, brown rice, fruits, veggies, and select protein supplements.

It may not always be the most “fun” but I truly believe eating this way has helped me stay very healthy but also helped me age very gracefully.

Although I still enjoy some treats from time to time, I am cautious about too much sugar consumption as it causes very fast aging.

I moisturize everyday

I have moisturized my face EVERY single day for the last 10 years.

Even if I am traveling, I still take my moisturizer with me.

Moisturizer helps keep your skin soft, hydrated, and gives it a healthy glow.

I think you guys would be amazed at what a difference you would see in just a week’s time by applying it to your face each time after you finished showering.

The exact one I use is Aveeno daily moisturizing lotion.

It’s frangrance free and will leave your skin with an amazing glow to it.

I drink a LOT of water

I drink 3 litres of water EVERY day.

Yes, it can be a pain to drink that much water at times as you can spend a lot of time in the bathroom.

However, drinking tons of water will flush your body of toxins and give your skin a real glow to it.

You’d be amazed at how much better your skin will look in as little as 2 weeks if you only drank water and at least 3 litres of it everyday.

Also, I don’t drink pop, juices and I rarely ever drink alcohol.

Speaking of alcohol….

I drink VERY minimal alcohol

Aside from destroying your liver, alcohol dehydrates your skin and causes it to age much faster than it would have otherwise.

I’m quite lucky in regard to this drinking “thing” because I don’t actually like the taste of beer or alcohol to begin with.

In fact, I will sometimes go up to 6 months without even a sip of alcohol.

However, I know that not every guy reading this feels the same way about drinking and I’m not saying you should quit drinking altogether but if you want to age at a slower rate, take it easy on the booze.

I don’t smoke

no-smoking

Without a doubt, smoking is one of the fastest ways to age at an accelerated rate.

It takes a toll on your skin, hair, and rots out your teeth.

I know it’s a tough habit to break and I actually smoked myself about 8 years ago but I strongly recommend you try to quit ASAP.

If you need to, go see your doctor to get some help.

After you quit, not only will you feel better, you’ll look better as well.

In fact, in as little as just 2 weeks of quitting, your circulation will improve and your skin will have a new glow to it.

Consciousness about sun exposure

sunscreen

When I know I’m going to be out in the sun for an extended period of time, I always have and always will apply sunscreen.

I love the sun just as much as anyone but since I’d prefer not to look like a leather couch, I always apply sunscreen.

I don’t do drugs

no-drugs

I take a lot of pride in living a clean lifestyle and completely avoid drugs of ANY sort.

Some of you may like to “spark one” from time to time but it’s just not my thing.

Some drugs are especially damaging to the body and will age you at an accelerated rate.

In fact, I know a woman whose nose is basically caved in from snorting a little too much “nose candy.”

I generally sleep 7-8 hours a night

Sleep is VITAL for slowly down the aging process and for beautiful, healthy skin.

Your body repairs itself while you sleep.

Also, you feel so much better the next day after a good nights sleep.

Yes, some nights it can be harder to “wind down” when you feel like you have a lot on the go, but make an effort to get more sleep in and your skin will look so much better within a week or two.

Fish Oil

I have taken 2 fish oil capusules every single day for the past 13 years.

Fish oil is largely believed to slow down the aging process and even prevent wrinkles.

There’s lots of benefits to taking it and you can read more about the benefits here.

I lead a fairly stress-free life

I know life can be stressful at times but you have to make the best of things.

I tend to roll pretty good with life’s punches and have often been accused of being “too laid back.”

Try to relax a bit.

Stress will only accelerate the aging process for you.

I drink a green tea everyday

This may or may not be helping that much.

There are claims that the free radicals in green tea can help slow down the aging process.

Whether it helps or not, I find I feel much more relaxed and am in a really good mood after a green tea.

My hair

My hair is definitely not my strong point.

I have some mild temple recession, but have to say that it’s not too bad overall.

I would say I still have 95% of It left.

That being said, though, I’m clearly prone to male pattern baldness so I do take 1.25 mg’s of Finasteride per day to stop it or at the very least slow it down.

My doctor prescribed it to me and it costs me less than $6 per month. (Ask your doctor to prescribe 5mg Finasteride instead of the 1mg Propecia and you’ll save a RIDICULOUS amount of money. It’s the EXACT same thing and all you have to do with the 5mg Finasterie is cut it into quarters with a pill cutter.)

Check out this before and after pic of a male who used Finasteride for 4 years.

You can also see more pics of amazing results guys have had with either Finasteride or Rogaine or a combination of the drugs.

I may write a post on Finasteride sometime, but I’ve had ZERO side effects a little over a year into it.

That being said, though, I can’t guarantee you won’t.

Talk to your doctor about it if you’re interested and also stay clear of “black market” versions of the drug online.

Also, when it comes to my hair I believe I only have 1 or 2 gray hairs.

Although keeping most of my hair and not graying is purely genetic, it definitely makes me look younger.

Speaking of genetics….

Genetics

I would say that genetics are BY FAR the most important factor in aging.

I very much do believe the other factors I mentioned are important but genetics play the BIGGEST factor.

Although I believe my dad looks about his age, my mom could pass for being 10 years younger than she is.

There’s no doubt that you know someone who seems to get away with everything.

They smoke, they eat mostly junk food, they binge drink and yet look YEARS younger than they really are.

However, these people are a rarity and most people would age crazy fast and be super unhealthy if they copied their habits.

Closing Thoughts

I hope this article helped give you some insights into how to slow down the aging process.

Try applying even a couple of these and watch how much better you look.

Also, if you have any tips that you believe help you age better, share them in the comments section.
